Jean Nelson

With a listening ear and welcoming energy, Jean advises and educates entrepreneurs with the resources and support they need to set fears aside and forge ahead in the startup or expansion of their business.
To be heard, understood, supported and empowered. That is how Jean Nelson hopes her clients feel when they conclude their time with her. Jean is SBDC’s Business Advisor for the seacoast, specializing in microbusinesses and business owners in the Pathway to Work program.
Jean’s love for her work at SBDC is evidenced by the hard to ignore pull that’s kept her coming back over the years. When she’s explored other avenues whether personally or professionally, Jean often found herself drawn back to serving small businesses at SBDC.
She has served in a variety of roles including in banking and marketing, and is also owner of her own business, JP Nelson Photography. In her family’s small metal fabrication business, Thompson Hill Metalcraft, Jean also played a key role in helping to secure a $250,000 loan to expand from a residential garage to a commercial 40 x 80 steel span building.
Most notably though is her love for her work at SBDC, where she first supported small businesses in 2001, and after a few short stints away, came back to SBDC as a business advisor where she loves helping people, inspiring others, and working with her colleagues to solve problems together.
In Jean, clients can expect a trusted, knowledgeable, down to earth advisor who will listen and understand their needs and will provide appropriate guidance along the way for them to be successful.
