About the Restaurant Initiative
The Restaurant Initiative is a statewide program directed by Warren Daniel, Seacoast Regional Manager of the NH Small Business Development Center. The Initiative’s focus is on helping independent restaurants grow their businesses while being mindful of costs and budgets.
New Hampshire’s restaurant and hospitality industry annually achieves over $2 billion in sales and employs over 47,000 people. Among the 50 states, NH ranks 7th in its reliance on tourism. Growing and successful restaurants add impact to State revenue through the 8% room and meal tax.
Daniel saw the need within the industry for management assistance, and so established the Restaurant Initiative in 2002. His 23 years of experience managing, owning and operating a chain of restaurants is key in aiding his clients’ success. During 2005, Daniel counseled 38 restaurants, which represents 350 employees and $7.8 million in sales. He helped his clients borrow $1.5 million in capital to pursue growth opportunities last year. In addition to one-on-one counseling, Daniel teaches a Food Costing Workshop throughout the state.
In 2002 Daniel won an award for Outstanding Project of the Year in Business Assistance by the North American Manufacturing and Technical Assistance Centers (NAMTAC) for the Restaurant Initiative.
